Allied Funds Management Ltd was formed in 2009. The board of directors and management team have an extensive track record in wealth management, mortgage origination and investment markets. This unique combination of people and skills develops aims to develop innovative offerings to investors.

With the company being wholly owned by its directors and employees, there is an explicit alignment of interest between the company’s objectives and the outcome for investors.

With no institutional interference, the investment team has the exclusive objective of maximising returns and minimising risk for investors.

The unique characteristics of residential and commercial debt combined with the changing dynamics of the market led Allied Funds Management Ltd to launch its inaugural Fund - the Allied Direct Fund - in 2012.



Allied Direct Fund’s advantage is derived from robust loan selection criteria, conservative lending limits, disciplined underwriting processes and rigorous recoveries on non-performing loans.

The Fund packages mortgage securities into sub-schemes to suit each investor and allows investors to choose their particular security, portion of the mortgage and investment term. Mortgages are registered in the investor’s name and the investor is noted on title to the security property, with the fund noted as the Asset Manager.


The Fund's strategy:

Derives stable fixed interest returns with predictable rates of return from Australia’s real estate mortgage market;

Integrates strict risk management to maintain high quality credit processes and lending criteria, creating an opportunity for the Fund to benefit from the premiums associated with borrowers who are underserviced by mainstream financiers; and

Creates an effective guarantee on investors’ return through interest on the Fund being capitalised

Paul McCombe

CEO, Director, Responsible Manager, Board Member and Investment Committee Member

Paul is a successful finance broker for over 17 years and provides Allied Funds Management Ltd with expertise in credit and lending policy and finance compliance.

Paul holds an Australian Credit License, is an accredited Mortgage Advisor, Licensed Real Estate Agent (Victoria and Queensland), and holds Diplomas in Financial Services - Financial Planning and Finance and Mortgages, and Anti-Money Laundering.

Paul is also a member of the Credit Ombudsman Service Limited, the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia and the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Adam Coughlan

Director, Board Member, Investment Committee Member

Adam has over 20 years’ experience in the funds management industry, including roles as Manager - retail for Australian Unity Investments, the Head of national accounts and research at Colonial First State. He was a director of two asset management firms from 2007 to 2011.

Adam's work has encompassed all aspects of the financial services industry, including fund raising for all major asset classes, restructuring direct property trusts, membership of management investment committees and media and public presentations.

Currently the general manager of the Bodiam Hotel Group, Adam is the responsible manager for Bodiam RE Limited part of the IEF Entertainment Trust (ASX: IEF).

Adam holds a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University.

Brad Vallance

Director, Responsible Manager, Board Member and  Investment Committee Member

Brad Vallance has 14 years of high level financial services experience in residential, commercial and construction mortgage lending at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and currently in mortgage broking services.

Brad holds a Diploma of Financial Services - Mortgage & Finance and has extensive experience in credit lending policy and assessment, national consumer credit protection and anti-money laundering compliance and operational processing.

Steven O'Connell

External Compliance Manager

Steven has extensive finance industry experience over 26 years in Life Insurance, Asset Management, Custodial Services, Financial Planning and Superannuation (Consulting, Administration and Trustee services).

Steven has held positions predominantly in compliance and risk management functions over the past 14 years but has had significant exposure to accounting and tax related issues for managed investment schemes and pooled superannuation trusts. He has been appointed company secretary for a number of entities, headed custodial operations for corporate actions, reconciliations and unlisted trust management and was a key person in the eventual sale of Mellon's superannuation and administration consulting businesses in 2005.

Steven has been appointed to the board of the Australian subsidiary of leading global asset management company, Chairs Compliance Committee, for leading global and domestic asset managers and continues to be a responsible manager for a number of asset management companies.
